A mother is driving a campaign to boost understanding of Wills.
It has been reported that many people estate planning in Cheshire, Oswestry and across the UK are not putting in sufficient end-of-life preparation, a phenomenon Caro Syson wants to change.
The Hertford-based mum of four has been caring for her own elderly mother and says the experience has drawn her attention to how woefully unprepared many families are. The stats back her up, with data suggesting approximately 27 million Brits do not currently have a Will, whilst an estimated £4.5 billion sits dormant in bank accounts. She claims that managing an estate can be stressful and overwhelming for many families, particularly in complicated areas such as individual finances, Wills and Powers of Attorney.
With people aged between 40 and 65, and other groups such as divorcees, firmly in mind, Ms Syson emphasises the importance of a practical, structured strategy to support later life planning. This encompasses everything from Wills, pensions and tax to equity release and funeral arrangements.
Estate planning experts have warned that the UK in 2026 faces a serious gap in estate planning preparation. The reason for this is that millions of people have yet to write a Will or formally establish Powers of Attorney. Over 1 million Lasting Powers of Attorney were officially registered in 2023, but too many of the people who assume this responsibility don’t appreciate the extent or nature of the work involved, or the legal implications.
This is why it is important to access suitable estate planning advice to ensure that your estate is passed down with minimal anxiety or uncertainty.
