Anyone investment planning in Cheshire cannot but have helped notice the rise in Winsford’s fortunes of late. The town has been the beneficiary of numerous projects that have rejuvenated the centre while helping to create over 70 jobs.
Thanks to a partnership between Cheshire West and Chester Council, the Future High Street Fund and Kier Construction, work began on the £22 million project in 2023. It involved the demolition of obsolete buildings and the introduction of improved and more sustainable business spaces with lowering operating costs, a new car park, pathways and cycle routes.
Moreover, the work has resulted in the creation of approximately 5,000 square metres of public open spaces. These have been designated to events, pop-ups, visiting attractions and other features of interest to the local community.
Due care was also given to providing more green space with 53 new trees, while a civic square was refurbished outside the library, including two restored war memorials.
A number of well-known retail brands have also been welcomed to the area, resulting in over 70 jobs created in the local economy, with some receiving support from the Winsford Skills & Employment Hub. Town planning has now moved on to the next phase of development, with the council engaged in discussions with local businesses while reaffirming its commitment to Winsford Market.
Speaking on behalf of the local authority, Councillor Nathan Pardoe said he was delighted that the first phase was now complete, stressing that the work carried out in recent years was the biggest since the 1960s and reflected the evolution in consumer habits.
