Rebirth of Shrewsbury works with multi-million pound investment

The old precision engineering Sentinel Works, based on Whitchurch Road in Shrewsbury, is getting a rebrand and revamp with a £1.5 million investment.

The new Sentinel Trade Park was announced by the local Paterson Enterprises, parent company to Morris Lubricants and Morris Leisure, who own the 8.5-acre site.

As part of the forthcoming changes, Morris Lubricants are relocating distribution to the park, away from their existing Castle Foregate manufacturing facility. The rest of the site will be reimagined and let to different businesses, providing more jobs and opportunities for investment planning in Oswestry, Shrewsbury and other parts of Shropshire.

Sentinel Trade Park is said to have already received enquiries from several well-known companies looking for space as tenants on the repurposed site. The owners are confident that as the business grows, the site will quickly see full occupancy, presenting a major boost for the economy in this part of Shropshire.

The old Sentinel Works was a precision engineering centre established over a century ago in 1915. It has seen many illustrious owners over the years including Rolls-Royce, Vickers, Perkins and Doncasters, manufacturing steam and later diesel powered transport engines, before Radius Aerospace finally wrapped up production at their Shrewsbury operation on April 30, 2024.

Edward Goddard, a director at Paterson Enterprises, said that while the closure of Radius Aerospace in Shrewsbury marked the sad ‘end of an era’, it also represented the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the proud history of the Sentinel Works.
