If you are investment planning in Cheshire, it is worth considering that the area is a major draw for green tech.
European packaging manufacturer Coveris recently officially launched its new conversion hall in an unveiling ceremony, featuring Mid Cheshire MP Andrew Cooper in attendance. The flagship facility is located in Winsford, where a multimillion-pound investment was earlier announced by the company in April this year.
The investment is earmarked to boost Coveris’ move into the VSP (vacuum skin packaging) market this year at the Winsford site, whose ‘waste-reducing’ food wrap plant is the country’s largest blown extrusion facility of PE (polyethylene) films. It includes a specialist conversion hall and manufacturing equipment.
The company’s Road One site opened on Thursday, September 19, after an extensive five-month refit and related expansion programme. The appeal of VSP is that it has a unique, skin-like appearance when wrapped around fish and meat, and offers a shelf-life of up to 28 days for food. This not only prolongs its freshness, but also reduces its waste.
Coveris has a company culture that is committed to a ‘No Waste’ sustainability strategy, covering packaging and operations.
The site opening followed several months of intensive construction work and associated machine installation. The site features manufacturing facilities and a dedicated Film Science lab, where packaging is produced and validated to meet sustainability commitments and come up with solutions to plastic packaging. Cooper met senior members of the leadership team behind the development of the new facility and commended them on their drive towards sustainability.
