Cheshire selected as key region in clean growth strategy

There is good news for anyone considering green energy investment planning in Cheshire. The county has been selected by the Government as one of four core growth regions for clean energy.

As a result of this, Cheshire West and Chester Council will be allocated £1 million in an initial round of funding, which will go to supporting workers with training programmes such as the Plan for Change mission. This promises a boost in job opportunities across the clean energy sector.

This project enables workers to easily match qualifications with specific roles, as skillsets transfer from oil and gas to renewables.

The Government confirmed that West Cheshire has been selected as one of the UK’s primary growth regions in clean energy for nuclear, offshore wind and solar industries. The pilot will be delivered locally by Enterprise Cheshire and Warrington, working alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council in a partnership with Net Zero North West and North West Net Zero Hub.

Funding is envisaged for new courses, training centres or career advisers, in order to help local people identify opportunities in careers such as construction, welding and electrical engineering. The region is already the focus of a North West Net Zero Industrial Cluster plan, encompassing £30 billion of clean energy projects, which aims to remove in excess of 40 million tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere per annum. It is hoped this will not only create but safeguard thousands of jobs.

In a statement, Cheshire West and Chester Council said the initiative will play a fundamental role in the ‘Net Zero’ shift from carbon-intensive to clean energy.
