Apple: UK engineering teams ‘double size in five years’

New data published recently underscores the importance of Apple to the UK economy.

If you’re considering tech as part of your strategy for investment planning in Cheshire, figures released show that Apple has invested over £18 billion in the UK over the last five years.

Moreover, the company now supports over 500,000 jobs, while its engineering teams have doubled over the same period.

Most of those jobs are via direct employment, the supply chain or through association with the company’s App Store, whose developers have earned close to £9 billion since it launched in 2008. The UK this week saw the launch of Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of AI- (artificial intelligence) powered tools, which has now been rolled out across the major English-speaking countries.

Also within the UK, Apple highlighted its growing TV brand, and in particular the Apple TV+ streaming service and production arm, which has boosted UK investment with Apple TV+ production tripling in the last 24 months. CEO Tim Cook said he was ‘thrilled’ to see Apple growing in the UK, working in tandem with entrepreneurship and innovation.

For her part, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, stressed that tech giants demonstrated their value to the UK’s prosperity by boosting employment opportunities. She said that the government’s Plan for Change and the country’s first international investment summit would benefit the UK to the tune of £63 billion, with companies such as Apple helping to deliver innovative tech while boosting jobs and infrastructure.
