Aldi confirms multi-million-pound investment in UK stores

Supermarket chain Aldi has announced another big investment in its UK stores.

If you are investment planning in Cheshire, Aldi operates a chain of supermarkets across the county including sites in Northwich, Knutsford and Holmes Chapel. Stores across the county, as well as the country, are due to benefit from the nationwide £67 million package.

Since 2017, the retailer has invested somewhere in the range of £600 million in store upgrades across the UK, including expanded fresh and chilled produce displays, as well as food-to-go sections. It has also introduced simpler layouts and LED lighting as part of its drive to make stores more energy efficient.

Its commitment to greater sustainability is also being achieved with the installation of CO2 refrigeration upgrades. It is anticipated that, after the work is complete, these will reduce carbon emissions, said to be the equivalent of more than 6,500 heated homes.

The next phase of investment will take place throughout 2025, ushering in improvements to health and beauty, as well as bakery aisles.

In a statement, Aldi’s managing director of national real estate, Jonathan Neale, said that the £67 million investment is a major boost for store customers across the country, following on from previous revamps – reflecting the brand’s commitment to improved shopping experiences and more sustainable outcomes.

In 2024, the German discounter disclosed that pre-tax profits more than trebled to £536.7 million as it celebrated record sales. Market analysts are predicting that on current trends, it could become the UK’s third biggest supermarket by 2028, as it takes market share from other UK retailers.
