Shropshire is the setting for a number of different regeneration projects that have been championed by local government leaders.

If you are investment planning in Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Telford and surrounding areas, a number of multi-million-pound capital projects are taking place. It is hoped that they will have a major and lasting economic impact across the region.

The local authority at Telford & Wrekin Council is currently investing circa £150 million in the much-touted regeneration of Telford’s Station Quarter in the town centre. The mixed-use scheme promises nearly 200 new homes in addition to a sixth-form education facility. The latter is being constructed at Addenbrooke House, the council’s previous administrative hub. This follows the earlier completion of The Quad, the town’s flagship university and business hub that was unveiled last year.

Another £150 million has been allocated through match funding, thanks to collaborations with the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the West Midlands Combined Authority, the Local Enterprise Partnership and the Towns Fund. Elsewhere, work is in progress on the multi-million-pound redevelopment of Wellington Market, and the £21 million overhaul of Telford Theatre in Oakengates. It is estimated these will be completed by 2027.

According to Telford & Wrekin Council Leader Lee Carter, each of these projects will make a huge difference to the area, providing not just physical regeneration but opportunities to create jobs, draw in new investment and establish Telford’s reputation as a desirable destination for businesses and families alike. He stressed that the work will meet the needs of today while embracing the world of tomorrow.
