Shropshire town named as one of ‘most underrated’ in country

Anyone investment planning in Oswestry may be interested to learn that nearby Shrewsbury has been ranked as one of the most ‘underrated’ towns in Britain.

In the survey by Betway, the historic Shropshire town scored highly, boosted by its wide selection of landmarks, restaurants and music events. Indeed, across the entire UK, it was beaten only by Hastings and Leamington Spa.

Shrewsbury was the only town from the Midlands listed. It lies just an hour away from Birmingham and is easily reached by trains or either of the M6 or M54. It was commended as a daytrip destination, with picturesque views and a prominent position on the scenic River Severn. It also boasts popular green spaces such as the Quarry, frequented by locals and tourists alike, and popular visitor attractions such as Shrewsbury Castle and the Abbey Church of the Holy Cross, founded in 1083.

The study awarded Shrewsbury third place in the poll on the basis of having 84% of its landmarks and 70% of its restaurants rated four stars or above, and on account of a vibrant arts scene playing host to nearly 50 different music events. With 18 independent shops in the old town centre similarly offering a charming appeal, it is a good destination for people keen to combine their visit with local culture and retail.

For its survey, Betway looked at over 50 towns across the country, also factoring in criteria ranging from the summer weather to TikTok posts.
