If you are investment planning in Cheshire, the evolution of Congleton town centre has just moved to the next level. Ambitious plans have been announced to create a vibrant mixed-use hub with phase two development due to start in March 2025.
The Congleton Market Quarter Container Village is being steered by the Market Quarter Group, which anticipates 12 new retail and workspace units being created, each designed with a view to creating a functional and sustainable environment for local enterprises to grow.
As of July 2024, the Congleton Market Quarter has helped to increase town centre footfall by 44%, compared to pre-pandemic levels. Aside from its business spaces, the Market Quarter has also developed a reputation as a community event hub.
It is now looking for prospective tenants for the new phase two units, and demand is high. The Market Quarter Group has pointed to the success of the inception project as an example of how to do economically beneficial, community-focused regeneration. With the envisaged next phase, they are now looking at creating a sustainable model moving forward, giving an opportunity to independent vendors by offering ongoing hospitality support and mentoring for interested businesses.
Partner Nick Hynes said that he is keen to see something emerge that is more ‘impactful and sustainable’ than just the development itself. By boosting interest in the town centre and giving people a stake in a familiar space, defined by its history and heritage, the project strives to engage with people in a ‘modern and relevant’ way.
