With an ageing general population, the UK is seeing a steady increase in care home provision. If you are investment planning in Oswestry or wider Shropshire, a new care community village has been approved in Hencote.
The ambitious scheme is part of the Hencote estate located just north of Shrewsbury. It includes a winery and vineyard, as well as a restaurant and holiday apartments. The company behind the project, Senesecura Ltd, was set up by the founders of the Hencote vineyard to drive forward care services and living arrangements for the elderly.
The proposals envisage a total of 164 new units of appropriate accommodation for older residents. This particular retirement village is earmarked for a part of Shropshire where the elderly population exceeds the national average. As such, the proposed development incorporates graduated care in a range of lodges and flats. These are in addition to a nursing home featuring 75 beds and a dedicated dementia unit.
Senesecura anticipates that there will be homes for around 200 people in total. It estimates that the facility will bring in approximately £75 million of inward investment to the area, as well as 155 full-time jobs once the scheme is operational. In addition, some 450 workers will be involved in construction.
Under the terms of the agreement, the development will occupy land on the existing Hencote vineyard. It will also feature an amenities building that includes specialist care facilities, treatment and therapy rooms, a fitness pool, small shop and restaurant, as well as site management facilities.
