The North West is poised to see a major investment in Cheshire’s transport infrastructure.
If you are investment planning in Cheshire, you may be interested to learn that the county is to receive over £53 million to improve its road network. Cheshire East Council claim their plans represent the ‘biggest investment’ in a decade, as part of a broader strategy to overhaul local roads and the public bus system.
Forthcoming projects include major repairs to a number of A roads including the A530 Middlewich Road, the A534 Congleton Road, and the A500 Newcastle Road. There will also be investigation and repair works to the B5470, as well as improvements to the ‘Go-Too’ Nantwich bus service. Additional proposals have been set out for improved walking, cycling and wheeling, such as the first phase of a 1.5-mile pedestrian route linking Wilmslow and Handforth.
The bill is partly being footed by local authority spending, and additionally by central government funding via its Transport and Local Bus Grants.
Speaking on behalf of Cheshire East’s highways and transport committee, Cllr Mark Goldsmith said the investment would deliver big improvements to people’s lives and was being targeted to ensure better, smoother and safer roads. He added that given the constraints on resources, the council would continue to lobby the Government to support further core roads maintenance. He stressed that Cheshire East was, moreover, ‘committed’ to getting people from A to B by offering greener and more accessible travel options, and to making the area a better place for residents, commuters and travellers alike.
