Further regeneration planned for Winsford

If you are retail investment planning in Cheshire, Winsford town centre is all set to benefit from a major regeneration this year.

The first phase of the £22.5m scheme has been touted as ‘the biggest investment’ in Winsford town centre’s shopping district since the 1960s. It is being financed by both central and local government funding. This follows the site’s earlier acquisition by the local council in 2018, when it purchased various property interests from Winsford Cross Developments Ltd in a deal worth £19.75 million.

Local authority leaders at Cheshire West and Chester Council have championed the planned B&M superstore, garden centre and market revamp as the cornerstones of the town’s regeneration. In a statement, the council said 2024 had been a ‘great year’ for the project, with the public square hosting a succession of events to commemorate D-Day and Remembrance Sunday, as well as greeting new businesses such as the flagship Costa Coffee store.

There are additional plans for restoration works on the indoor shops and collaborative efforts with traders to improve Winsford Market, while work is ongoing with regards to completion of the public library, and the provision of extra car parking space.

Councillor Nathan Pardoe, who deals with inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation, said that Winsford was long overdue this transformation, following various false starts in the past, and that the regeneration will ensure the town centre is modernised and evolves moving forward, as it keeps up with changing consumer habits.
