Scotland scores second place for foreign investment

Foreign investment

In a recent survey, Scotland was recognised as being the favoured place for foreign investment in the UK outside London.

Last year, the country outpaced Europe and the UK on foreign investment and has now secured its title as the second most sought-after destination for overseas investors for two consecutive years, with a record number of inward investment projects (126).

Additionally, Scotland secured a 13.6% share of all UK FDI projects and is also polling at record levels of investor attractiveness as an FDI destination outside of London.

The robust performance shown is the nation’s fourth successive yearly increase in FDI projects, which is set against the backdrop of a 6% decline in all UK projects and growth overall. Scotland’s record share of total UK projects rose by 12.3% in 2021, and 11% in 2020.

Like Europe and the UK, Scotland’s largest sector last year was the digital technology sector, which has been the top industry for Scottish FDI over the last three years.

The survey showed that Scotland is second only to the capital in terms of being Britain’s most attractive location for future investors, with 11% of investors ranking Scotland as their most attractive choice to establish operations in the United Kingdom.

Just as foreign investors look to the UK for opportunities, Britons can find valuable assets overseas to add their portfolios. Consequently, many investors seek out experts in portfolio management in Shropshire, Scotland and other parts of Great Britain for an unbiased assessment of assets and specialist advice on making investments abroad.
